Rhodes withdraw from Gotland Games

Rhodes have withdrawn from next month's NatWest Island Games in Gotland due to the current financial situation in Greece.

The International Island Games Association confirmed their absence to the other competing islands with the Greek economy facing mountainous debts – it means they've now missed two of the last three Games.

The island sent a small team to Jersey in 2015 and triple-jumper Savvas Diakonikolas won their only gold medal of the week.

Rhodes have competed at the Games since 1997 and hosted the sporting showpiece once in 2007.
