Aurigny won't fly direct to Barcelona this year

Aurigny won't fly direct to Barcelona this year, despite a successful service from Guernsey last summer.

The local airline said flights to the Spanish city in 2016 were "commercially viable" and "exceeded expectations" for passenger numbers.

But, they won't be repeating the venture in 2017 because there aren't enough airport slots.

The company explored flying to Girona Airport, near Barcelona, but that also proved not possible.

They have, however, promised to "review options going forward" and are "committed to exploring European summer destinations", but not until 2018.
