Islanders in Sark could see electricity prices plummet

Islanders in Sark could see their electricity prices plummet, after politicians voted for a new electricity regulator.

At Chief Pleas last night, members appointed a commissioner that will have the power to enforce price controls.

Currently electricity prices in Sark are the highest in the Channel Islands and more than three times of that in Jersey.

There is only one supplier of electricity in the island, meaning no competition.

Sark Electricity Ltd say the legislation is 'using a sledgehammer to crack a nut'.
