Groves family call for British Government help in trial

The family of murdered Guernsey woman Sarah Groves is calling for help from the British Government after the trial of her alleged killer has seen no progress for more than a year.

24-year-old Sarah was killed on a houseboat in Srinigar, India, in 2013 and the trial of Dutchman Richard De Wit started that year.

Sarah's father, Vic Groves, say the family's only choice is to ask the British Government to intervene.

Progress has been hampered by civil unrest, militant violence and ongoing demonstrations in Kashmir where the trial is being heard.

De Wit has also changed his defence team on more than one occasion and there have been legal arguments about his fitness to stand.

A revised ‘next hearing date’ of Friday 21st October has been set.
