Boat of migrants believed to be bound for Channel Islands stopped

A boat of migrants believed to be headed for the Channel Islands has been intercepted by French authorities.

The small vessel tried to leave the French coast from the Barneville-Carteret area.

The people were stopped from making what is described as a 'hazardous journey' and detained for questioning.

French authorities patrolled their coast over the weekend and say the migrants have moved away from the Carteret area.

Guernsey Border Agency say 'plans are in place' if situations arise from refugees or migrants being displaced from Calais.

Jersey Customs and Immigration Service and States of Jersey Police say they have increased their vigilance at the Island’s ports and other possible landing points.
