Holocaust survivor visits Jersey for memorial day
A Holocaust survivor is visiting Jersey for a Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony today.
Sami Steigmann and his parents were imprisoned in a concentration camp from 1941 to 1944.
He was a small child at the time and was near to death; he only survived after a German woman smuggled milk and food to him.
His family survived and moved to Israel in 1961, before he emigrated to the USA in 1968.
Holocaust Memorial Day remembers the millions of people that were murdered during World War Two, including 21 islanders from Jersey.
Today's ceremony is one of 3,600 events taking place across the British Isles.
It takes place at 1pm at the Occupation Tapestry in the Maritime Museum.
Sami has also been visiting schools to share his experiences.
