Prince Charles joins actors on stage for Shakespeare celebrations

The Prince of Wales took to the stage as Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, rounding off a day of celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death.

Charles, who is patron of the Royal Shakespeare Company, made a surprise appearance in a star-studded televised gala in Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Stratford played host to a series of events throughout Satrurday in celebration of the Bard's life and works.

Shakespeare400: the younger generation's view

Children across the Midlands have been taking part in a series of Shakespeare-related workshops and programmes as part of celebrations to mark Shakespeare400.

Young pupils from the Nelson Mandela School in Sparkbrook in Birmingham were among the students taking part. They had a Shakespeare takeover day and were visited by award-winning childrens' author Marcia Williams, as well as being served Shakespeare-themed biscuits and special pudding for lunch !

They told ITV News Central what Shakespeare means to them, and their favourite piece of work.
