A dog that was dragged behind a van as it was driven round an industrial park has been rescued in Stoke-on-Trent.

The tan lurcher was forced to do several laps of Fenton Industrial Estate while the Ford Transit vehicle's passengers sat in the back laughing.

The RSPCA had been appealing for the public's help to trace the dog before anything else happened to it.

The animal welfare organisation said the dog will remain in the care of the RSPCA while police investigations into the incident continue.

A RSPCA spokesman said: "Following our appeal, we received information which led to the seizure of the dog by police."

The dog had no serious injuries.
