Queen’s Birmingham visit 'will be safe' amid terror fears

West Midlands Police have assured the Queen’s visit to Birmingham later will pass off safely after security was stepped up in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.

Officers made detailed searches in the area around New Street Station yesterday ahead of the Queen officially opening the revamped rail hub.

Her Majesty will also visit the Midland Metro tram extension in Bull Street and the Dental Hospital during her visit this morning.

Assistant Chief Constable Gareth Cann says every effort has been made to keep the public and the very special visitors safe, with armed officers carrying out high visibility patrols.
