Police are appealing for witnesses after an Asian man was assaulted and racially abused outside a Leicester bus station.

The incident happened at around 6pm on Sunday 16 August in Gravel Street when the 39-year old victim was waiting for a bus with his wife and two children.

A man sat down near the family and then began shouting racist abuse at the victim. As the victim got up from his seat, the man approached the victim before punching him several times in the chest.

The victim left the scene and later attended hospital for treatment for a fractured rib.

The victim’s family were left extremely upset at witnessing this attack on their husband and father and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault or the moments leading up to it to please contact us."

The suspect is described as white, aged between 20 and 30-years-old, between 5ft 9in and 5ft 11in tall and of large build. He had short fair hair and facial stubble.
