Earlier this year ITV News Central was given exclusive behind the scenes access to The Smiler after going through its annual winter maintenance work.

The ride is held together by 12 thousand bolts and has a rigorous maintenance schedule.

When operational it travels at a maximum speed of 53mph and has 14 loops.
