KFC handwipe ban in Leicester was 'misunderstanding'

Fast Food company KFC has admitted that a ban on alcohol-based hand wipes in a Leicester branch was a ‘misunderstanding’.

According to the Leicester Mercury, bosses at the chain have apologised after a customer who visited an outlet in St George's retail park was refused a hand-wipe by staff because it was against it's Halal policy.

In reports in the paper, staff said this was because the wipe contains alcohol which is forbidden in the Muslim Holy book, the Quran.

The Leicester-based Federation of Muslim Organisations has called the decision “bizarre”.

KFC has now said this was not the case in any of their restaurants.

Our alcohol-based hand wipes are approved for use in all our restaurants, including those who are part of the Halal trial. There was a misunderstanding at the store in question, but the wipes are now being used again. We’re sorry for the customer’s experience.”
