Leicestershire Fire & Rescue has confirmed that nitric acid is involved in the major fire in Groby.
Crews were called to a business on Fir Tree Lane over two floors measuring 100x60 metres after reports of smoke shortly after 6:30am. Inside they found a spillage of around 5 litres of nitric acid.
Attempts were made to contain the spill, but the acid reacted and caught fire, and at 8:39am the fire service were withdrawn from the area due to further chemicals being involved, and the flames spreading rapidly.
