Today marks 25 years since one of the UK's worst air disasters, when 47 people died after a British Midland Boeing 737 en route to Belfast crashed into an embankment on the M1 during an attempted emergency landing at East Midlands airport.

Firefighter recalls devastation inside Kegworth fuselage

Jez Noon was working as a firefighter on the night Flight BD092 crashed into the embankment of the M1, while it attempted to make an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport.

Here he describes the first moment he entered the Boeing 737's shattered fuselage to rescue survivors, and the scene of devastation which met him when he went inside.

Forty-seven people died, and 74 were seriously injured, when the British Midland flight to Belfast came down near Kegworth in Leicestershire 25 years ago today.
