Memorial for Kegworth air disaster victims 25 years on

Today marks 25 years since one of the UK's worst air disasters, when 47 people died after a British Midland Boeing 737 en route to Belfast crashed into an embankment on the M1 during an attempted emergency landing at East Midlands airport.

Anna Soubry: Scale of Kegworth crash hard to describe

Former Central News East reporter Anna Soubry, who is now the Conservative MP for Broxtowe, has described her feelings at seeing the wreckage of the British Midland plane, which crashed on the approach to East Midlands Airport 25 years ago today.

She was one of the first to report on the disaster near Kegworth on January 8 1989. She said it was a 'peculiar feeling', when she stopped to think how the plane had come to rest on the embankment of the M1.
