Two masked robbers hit a security guard with a hammer in an attack on a cash-in-transit van before escaping in a stolen car, police revealed today.
The men, who were wearing balaclavas, threatened the driver and stole a cash box from the van as it was parked outside the Tesco Express store in Stourbridge Road, Kidderminster.
They then made off in a blue Mercedes, which was fitted with false number plates and had been stolen in a car key burglary in Bloxwich last month.
The cash box - with all cash still inside - was later found inside the car, which was abandoned around half a mile away in Roden Avenue.
The driver was hit during the robbery but was not injured.
