Actor Paddy Considine, from Burton-on-Trent, has revealed he felt like 'closing down for years' after he was gripped by despair before doctors found out he was suffering from a rare condition that made it difficult for him to cope with light.

In 2010, Considine, who stars in the ITV drama, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, was told he had Asperger's syndrome in 2010.

After seeking further help over his symptoms, he was later told he also had Irlen syndrome, a condition in which the brain cannot properly process light.

Paddy Considine has starred in the films Hot Fuzz and Bourne Ultimatum.
