The Department for Transport says the new station at Toton will offer excellent links to East Midlands cities and will stimulate growth across the region.
They have denied claims that the new station should have been located in one of the cities and it will be readily accessible by public transport from Derby and Nottingham.
They say the connection will greatly benefit businesses in Derby. The Nottingham Tram system could also be extended to provide access from Nottingham University and other businesses in the city.
The Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire has opposed his party's plans saying his constituents will "have no gain from HS2, and will be horrified by the route".
An influential group of MPs says the DfT has failed to present 'a convincing strategic case' for HS2.
Campaigners say they hope to put plans for HS2 through the Midlands back to square one as they prepare to go to the High Court tomorrow.
Campaigners from HS2 Action Alliance are heading to London tomorrow to take on the Government at the Court of Appeal.
