Weekend Picks: Jazz at the Cathedral

One of the UK's most gifted and exciting young jazz violinists, Ben Holder, and the winner of Young Jazz Musician of the Year, will be performing at a Jazz evening at Derby Cathedral this weekend.

The event is to launch the ‘Jazz at the Cathedral’ strand of programming. Doors open at 7pm.

Weekend Picks: Lambing at Home Farm

Visitors are invited to Calke Abbey this weekend to see the spring lambs.

There’ll be a small flock of rare breed sheep on the Estate and may even be a chance to see a lamb being born.

Weekend Picks: Scale Model Show

  • Sun 3rd April (Royal Air Force Museum, Shropshire)

This weekend modelling fans from across the country are expected to attend the annual Shropshire Modellers' Show at RAF Cosford.

Intricately detailed models will be on display against a backdrop of aircrafts in the Museum's hangars. There’ll be around 150 exhibitors and traders heading down to the event this weekend selling everything modellers would need to build the perfect tank, car or boat models.

Weekend Picks: Bubble Rush

  • Sat 2nd April (Coombe Abbey Country Park, Coventry)

Watch as participants run, dance, walk or skip 5k this weekend around Coventry’s Bubble Rush course.

Participants taking part will receive a white t-shirt at the start of the race and finish and as they go past, a range of coloured bubble stations will blowing frothy coloured bubbles over them. The event is open to all the family.

Although the event for participants has now sold out you can still go along to cheer on and watch. Proceeds from the event will be donated the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.

Weekend Picks: Sci-Fi Weekend

This weekend Churnet Valley are holding celebrating all things science fiction.

At the family-friendly event, visitors can experience travelling by ‘Earth Train’, dressing up as their favourite superhero and taking a look around the Dr Who exhibition.

At Froghall station there’ll be a full Dr Who exhibition including Cyberman, K9 and Tardis displays, along with a Children's Activity Academy.

Weekend Picks: Spice Festival

This weekend Oak House Museum in West Bromwich are holding a Spice festival where there’ll be activities and food from around the world.

Visitors will be able to explore food stalls displaying spices in food, medicine and lifestyle.

At the festival there’ll also be free family theatre, magic shows and balloon modelling.

"We are really looking forward to celebrating the use of spice at the festival. It's so interesting to discover that what we use in food today is very similar to what was used in West Bromwich more than 400 years ago.”

Weekend Picks: Cavendish Horses Spring Spectacular
