A lorry caught fire on the Southbound carriageway between junctions 15 and 16 around 3.30am.

Warwickshire Police Operational Patrol Unit tweeted a video of crews tackling the blaze, adding: "Currently at a lorry fire on the #M40 15/16, closures in place. Complete closure in place on the Southbound, lane closure on the Northbound."

Three lorries then crashed on the Northbound carriageway shortly after.

Warwickshire Police said in an earlier statement: "Police were called shortly after 4am to reports of a collision on the Northbound side of the carriageway between junctions 15 (Warwick) and 16 (Henley). It is thought to have involved three lorries.

"Emergency services and fire crews are also on the scene. The road is expected to be closed for the majority of the morning while the Southbound stretch of the M40 from junctions 15 to 16 is also closed at this time due to a separate lorry fire."

It's thought the road will remain closed throughout the day.
