Body discovered in Derbyshire canal
Police have cordoned off a tow path close to the Erewash Canal in Derbyshire after a fisherman discovered a body yesterday morning (15th September).
Several police vans attended the scene on Bennett Street in Long Eaton, and a forensic tent has been set up close to the canal.
Fisherman Arnold Smith was among those by the canal when the body was found. He said that he was told to move as officers had taped off the canal towpath. The 75-year-old pensioner said: “Well, I had just set up and I was told that I had to move because something was found in the water. They didn’t tell me what it was but it was urgent that I moved."
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police says an investigation is underway. The body has not yet been publicly identified.
