Derby's newly refurbished RSPCA centre opens to public

A newly refurbished RSPCA animal rehoming centre in Abbey Street in Derby has opened over the bank holiday weekend.

It unveiled its new kennel blocks which will improve the overall welfare standards for the dogs in the centre’s care. There is also more space to take in larger breed dogs for rehabilitation and rehoming.

Channel 4's Gogglebox stars Baasit and Umar Siddiqui were there to open the centre with a guest of honour - a former resident Ralph.

Ralph is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross-breed, who was brought in an appalling condition - he had been beaten so badly he could not walk and had to have one of his legs amputated.

Luckily, he found a new happy home with his owner in Allestree.

Georgina Wild from RSPCA said:

The centre was able to rehome more than 1,100 animals in 2017.
