A man from Birmingham fought off an axe-wielding burglar who broke into his home - suffering cuts to his head and neck.

Reece Parkes broke into Patrick Glass's home and attacked him, leaving him with blood gushing from the head.

Despite that, Mr Glass managed to fight Parkes off and he fled the house in Hamstead, Birmingham.

He was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court this week for burglary and robbery.

But Mr Glass doesn't think it's long enough.

"In my mind, I had no doubt he was trying to kill me. It was attempted murder."

Mr Glass still has headaches from the attack and his family are scared to be left in their home alone.

At court, Parkes was given a seven year prison term for robbery and six months for burglary, to run concurrently.
