To mark International Women’s Day, a new exhibition showing the struggles, hopes and dreams of refugee and migrant women opened this week at the Library of Birmingham.

Salma Zulfiqar, a Birmingham-based international artist and the curator of the exhibition has worked with women from Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Senegal to create the exhibition called ‘Migration Blanket’.

It shows the challenges they face with integration in the UK as well as their ambitions as part of a greater project funded by the Arts Council UK and National Lottery.

Many of the women have had tragic journeys and have recreated them on canvas over a series of workshops between January and February 2018.

The exhibition received support from a number of people including the anti-racism campaigner and journalist Yasmin Alibhai Brown and Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood.
