A Romanian national is set to be deported for four crimes after being caught under citizen's arrest by a local house painter.

Claudio Rosu was placed under citizen's arrest by Nick Martin, who recognised him in Beeston, after seeing his description on a Facebook post by Nottinghamshire Police.

Nick said:

Due to Nick's actions, 23-year-old Rosu later appeared via a video link at Nottingham Crown Court where he admitted two robberies, two thefts and an assault causing actual bodily harm in September.

The court heard that on 9 September, Rosu dragged an OAP to the ground, who feared he was a rapist. The 82-year-old lost a tooth.

The same night, Rosu followed a 35-year-old woman and ripped a silver chain from her neck at Caldbeck Court. He then bundled her to the floor and stole her handbag at around 21:15.

Just two and a half hours later at 23:45, a 17-year-old boy had his mobile phone taken on Eskdale Drive, Chilwell by Rosu.

The following day, Rosu took a female student's mobile phone and bags containing a passport, identity cards and £100 on Cut Through Lane, in University Park Campus, at 15:50.

In France 13 months ago, Rosu received a suspended prison sentence for robbery with violence. He also had two convictions for theft and one for having a firearm and ammunition but no previous offences were recorded in the UK.

Judge Nigel Godsmark QC, said:

Rosu has been sentenced to four years in prison and the court heard that he is likely to be deported after serving two years of his sentence.
