Birmingham bin strike 'could continue until new year'

Bin workers in Birmingham could continue to strike until the new year, the Unite union has warned.
The current notice for industrial action lasts until 21 September.
However, Unite have planned to re-ballot their members to continue striking for a further 12 weeks after that date.
Birmingham's long-running bin strike, which is over changes to working practices and the downgrading of supervisor jobs, saw rubbish piling up across the city.
An agreement to put the seven-week dispute on hold had been reached by their union Unite and Birmingham City Council Leader John Clancy.
The deal was due to come into force tomorrow, if agreed by the Council cabinet. However, the Cabinet meeting was suddenly cancelled by the interim chief executive Stella Manzie.
Unite said their members would resume strike action immediately if the deal fell through.
