ITV Central has been investigating how many children and young people in our region accessed Mental Health Services in the 12 months up to December last year.

Across the East and West Midlands, over 1,000 children under the age of five were supported by the service.

In the East Midlands, 14,221 young people up to the age of 19 accessed the service. 332 of them were aged five or younger.

In Nottinghamshire, a total of 5,157 children and young people were seen. This compares to 3,735 in Leicestershire, 2,801 in Derbyshire and 2,528 in Lincolnshire.

In the West Midlands, 960 children aged five or younger were treated by health trusts in the region.

The largest number, 420 children, were referred by the Dudley and Walsall Health Partnership.

This compares to 196 in South Staffordshire, 103 in Worcestershire and 92 in Coventry and Warwickshire.

ITV Central obtained the figures through a Freedom of Information request to health trusts in both East and West Midlands.
