A Derby County legend has been honoured in one of the most unlikely places - a Spanish third division football club.

Record goal scorer Steve Bloomer was honoured by Real Unión, who are based in Irun near the French Border, who held a 'Steve Bloomer Day' last Saturday (January 21st).

Mr Bloomer played for Derby County between 1891-1906 and again between 1910-1914 and scored a total of 291 goals.

He eventually went onto coaching and one of the highlights of his career included leading Real Unión to win the Copa Del Rey against Real Madrid, the equivalent of the FA Cup in 1924.

The club paid tribute to their former head coach on his birthday with a rendition of "Steve Bloomer's Watchin", the official anthem of Derby County.

Since posting it on their Twitter page, the club has been inundated with supporters from Derby County wanting to buy their kit.
