Three police officers will stand trial later this year charged with perverting the course of justice and perjury in connection the death of a man under restraint.

Kingsley Burrell died after suffering a cardiac arrest in hospital in 2011 following his detention hours earlier by police under the Mental Health Act.

West Midlands Police officers Paul Adey, 36, Mark Fannon, 45, and Paul Greenfield, 50, were charged last year.

They face a charge of perjury and perverting the course of justice over evidence they gave at the May 2015 inquest into the death of the father-of-three.

The Crown Prosecution Service decided to charge the men in October following a referral from the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A trial date has been set for September 11.
