The director of a Birmingham bullion dealer says it made £1 million in less than two hours after Donald Trump became American president.

Britain’s biggest online dealer, BullionByPost, was expecting the biggest day of trading since it was set up eight years ago after markets around the world crashed.

When the markets are jittery, investors look for alternative ways of investing money and protecting wealth, and often look to invest in gold.

Rob Halliday-Stein, founder and managing director of BullionByPost, said today would far exceed gold trading following Brexit in June.

He had previously predicted a Brexit would prompt a gold rush which could generate his firm sales of up to £10 million in a single day.
