Leicester's Hospitals are supporting the launch of an Organ Donation Awareness campaign within the Hindu Community.

The campaign will be launched at an Organ Donor Signing Card event this afternoon at the Shreejidham Haveli in Leicester.

The aim of the event and campaign is to raise awareness of Organ Donation and Transplantation in Leicestershire which has a population of over 50,000 Hindus.

Leicester has the highest Hindu Community outside of London. In order to maximise the level of awareness the campaign has involved endorsements from Religious Leaders from the Gujarat State of India who will be reciting from the Bhagavad Gita, the Hindu Religious book, to support and promote the message of Organ Donation. The event will be screened live by Aastha TV, a TV network in India.

Karamjit Singh will be speaking at the event to throw Leicester's Hospitals support behind the campaign:

"I am delighted to be able to help launch the event and promote such an important message - 'the gift of life'.

I would encourage everyone to talk with their families about Organ Donation and consider registering. It only takes 2 minutes to sign up and you could potentially be saving lives."
