New Pokemon Go craze puts Birmingham church on the map
A church in Birmingham is bracing itself for a flood of visitors from around the world after it has became a location in the online game craze Pokemon Go.
No-one knows why City Road Methodist Church has been included in the mobile phone game. Church steward David Hallam said: “God really does work in mysterious ways.”
Pokemon Go players have already begun to descend on the city centre church. Sunday service worshippers were shocked to find one Pokemon gamer sitting on the church steps, engrossed in the game.
The church steward said:
But Mr Hallam hopes some of them will be tempted to go inside and search for salvation rather than collect virtual points on the steps of the building.
In the game the church is described as a gym and allows players to capture Pokemon characters who appear in various locations, their images superimposed on real time, real life locations.
The church steward says they are flattered and may hold a Pokemon evening in the future.
