Police warning for motorists who lie to avoid speeding tickets and penalty points
West Midlands Police have issued a warning to motorists, who lie to avoid speeding tickets and penalty points, that they will be hauled before the courts.
The warning comes after police caught a Birmingham man, who twice used a fake name and wrong addresses, in a bid to escape punishment.
Shahzad Hussain, from Bromford Lane in Washwood Heath, narrowly avoided jail after pleading guilty to perverting the course of justice at Birmingham Crown Court last week.
He completed a notice of prosecution form with a false identity and incorrect address after a relative was clocked at 40mph in a 30mph zone along Drews Lane, Washwood Heath.
It meant the ‘phantom’ driver of the Peugeot could not be traced.
37 year-old, Mr Hussain then tried to repeat the deception, using the same name but different address, after a BMW driven by a family member registered at 48mph in a 40mph area on Heartlands Parkway in July last year.
Suspicious officers investigated and after tracking down who was registered to use the vehicles they arrested Hussain who admitted his actions.
He was handed a nine month prison term suspended for two years, ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and pay £100 victim surcharge.
