Detectives are appealing for information after a 59-year-old woman was dragged along the road in a 'distraction' car-jacking incident in Birmingham this morning.

The woman was driving her red Ford Fiesta along Packington Avenue in Shard End just before 7am when she spotted a log in the middle of the road.

She swerved to avoid it before stopping as she saw a second log lying in the road ahead. As she pulled up at the side of the road and got out a man jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off.

The woman attempted to hang on to the car but the man continued to accelerate, dragging her along for a short distance.

She suffered cuts and bruises to her face, was taken to hospital to be checked over and has since been released.

Detective Constable Ben Allen is appealing to anyone who was in the area this morning and may have seen someone carrying the logs to get in touch. At this stage officers believe the logs were stolen from a nearby children’s play area.

Anyone with information can contact DC Allen on 101 or call Crimstoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
