Polish cat saved from death after campaign by pet enthusiasts raises hundreds

A healthy Polish cat has been saved from being put down after pet enthusiasts raised hundreds of pounds to keep him alive in an online campaign.

Vets at Ruddington Veterinary Centre in Nottingham were handed the black feline three weeks ago after it was found on a street in Beeston.

The team learned the cat came from Poland after tracing its microchip.

Trading Standards officials warned bosses that if the owners weren't found the cat would either have to be put down or put in quarantine due to public safety concerns, given that it could not be certain that cat had been brought into the country legally.

After failed attempts to find the cats owners in Poland and locally and faced with a bill of as much as £350 to keep it in quarantine, the vets launched a last ditch appeal through GoFundMe to stop it from being put down.

The community responded overwhelmingly raising almost £500 in an hour.
