Five residents escape from burning block of flats

Five other residents managed to escape from the block of flats in which a small child and two adults were killed last night.

Firefighters were initially called to reports of a car on fire outside the block of flats in Langley Mill where three people were killed last night.

At 3:59am, a car fire was reported outside the property on North Street. But only two minutes later, another call came into the fire control room, reporting that the building was also alight.

Five people managed to escape from flats inside the building.

A man, a woman and little girl were pronounced dead at the scene.

The police and fire service are working together to try to discover how the fires started.
