Beeston Men's hockey team crowned champions
Beeston Men’s hockey team have been crowned Premier League Champions after winning the play off finals this weekend.
They beat Surbiton 5-1 in the final yesterday with goals from Martin Jones, Ollie Willars, Craig Boyne(2) and Simon Egerton.
Beeston finished 11 points clear in the Premier League – qualifying easily for the Finals Weekend which features the top four teams in the country. Their semi final on Saturday against Reading finished 2-2 at full time with Beeston eventually winning a tense game 4-3 on penalty flicks.
As well as the Champions Trophy, Beeston were presented with a cheque for £2,500. Their captain Adam Dixon was named NOW Pensions Player of the Season.
Elsewhere there was disappointment for the club. Beeston’s U-18 boys lost 3-2 to Old Loughtonians in the final of the National Cup and the U-16s girls lost their final to Wakefield 7-6 on penalty flicks. The game finished 0-0 at full time.
Cannock U-18 boys finished third in the National Finals.
