Alton Towers to launch "world first rollercoaster"

The new ride will be even faster than this ride at the park called Air Credit: Alton Towers Resort

Alton Towers is to launch its biggest ever ride which will be the first of its kind in the world.

What exactly makes the roller-coaster a "world first" is a closely guarded secret, so secret even the name is not being revealed, instead the ride has been given the mysterious code name Secret Weapon 7.

All that Alton Towers would say was that the ride will certainly not be for the faint-hearted:

The ride is set to be launched in March 2013 and will be the most amount the resort has spent on a ride in its 32 year history.

The ride is a top-secret project however Alton Towers have given these facts about Secret Weapon 7:

  • The highest drop point will be 30 metres which is nearly 8 double decker buses on top of each other.

  • The ride will cost £18 million to build - the most expensive ride ever built at the resort

  • The ride will reach speeds of 85 km/hr which is 10km/ph faster than Air

  • The track length is 1,170m that is 3 times the ride time of Rita

  • There will be 16 passengers per train (4 rows by 4)

  • The minimum rider height will be 1.4 metre

  • The ride will be in the X Sector part of the park, on the old Black Hole ride

  • The ride will open on the 16th March 2013
