Leicester hosts Down Syndrome World Gymnastics Championships
Athletes from all over the world have been taking part in the Down Syndrome World Gymnastics Championships in Leicester today (16 September).
It is the second year running the city has hosted the event, which welcomed teams from Italy, Russia, Portugal, South Africa, Norway, Canada, USA, Mexico, Brazil and Eire, all of whom competed against their British counterparts.
Trevor Low, event manager for New College and Hinckley Gymnastic Club and organiser of the championships, told ITV Central News the event had been a success.
Three gymnasts from Leicester Leys Special Needs Gymnastics Club were among those taking part today.
Councillor Vi Dempster, Assistant City Mayor for children, schools and education, says she is "delighted" Leicester has hosted the championships two years in a row.
