Tributes have been paid to an "exceptionally talented" international rugby player who died in a road accident.

Former Scotland Under-20 international and Nottingham Rugby player Mitchell Todd, from Coventry, was found inside a Citroen C3 at Cotgrave Road, near Normanton on the Wolds in south Nottinghamshire.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Solihull, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Todd, who represented Scotland Under 20s in last season's Six Nations and featured in the Junior World Cup, had just finished a degree in sports therapy at Coventry University, Nottingham Rugby Club said.

Paying tribute to the player in a statement, the Championship club said:

Todd signed a new contract with the club in May and was expected to make a big impact during the 2012-2013 season, the club added.
