Aston Villa's Stiliyan Petrov was overwhelmed at his birthday celebration today

Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov has celebrated his 33rd birthday today by joining up with team mates at the training ground.

Petrov, who was diagnosed with acute Leukemia in March was also given another birthday surprise as Villa's new manager Paul Lambert, confirmed that the 33 year old would remain as club captain.

It all proved quite emotional for the fan's favourite as he was presented with a Birthday Cake and team-mates sang Happy Birthday.

Aston Villa's new manager Paul Lambert said he was worried about how Petrov would be feeling before going to see him after he had been diagnosed, but was pleasantly surprised, finding him looking well:

It has also been announced that Villa masseurs Andy Smith and Alex Butler are cycling from Celtic Park to Villa Park in September to raise funds for Leukaemia research, calling their event what else but Pedal for Petrov!
