Teenager sentenced to 16 years in custody for killing his mother
A 15-year-old Nottingham boy has been detained for 16 years for killing his mother with a hammer after being inspired by a plot from Coronation Street.
Daniel Bartlam, now 15, was 14 when he hit his mother Jacqueline Bartlam with a claw hammer.
He then poured petrol around her bedroom before lighting newspaper on a gas fire and setting alight the family home in Redhill in Nottingham.

Jacqui Bartlam could only be identified by dental records, after her body was recovered on 25 April last year.
In February a jury found Daniel Bartlam guilty of his mother’s murder.
Today he was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 16 years.
On sentencing the teenager, Mr Justice Flaux described the killing as “grotesque” and “senseless”.
Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Kate Meynell, who led the investigation, said:
A statement from the parents of Jacqui Bartlam on behalf of their family read:
“Daniel attempted to make out during the trial that Jacqui was a bad mother, which couldn’t be further from the truth. She loved her boys and would do anything for them. We are a very close family, and it is hard to know how to deal with something like this. Twelve years ago we lost the youngest of our daughters and our eldest grandson in a car crash and to have to go through this twice hurts more than words can say."
