Grimsby Ice Rink's future secured
The future of Grimsby Ice Rink has been secured after councillors approved a community group's proposal to run it.
North East Lincolnshire Council’s cabinet agreed for the facility to be transferred to the Grimsby Ice Rink Community Group after they prepared a business plan showing how they intended to fund and manage it.
The council spent £200,000 on a temproary "ice pad" at Grimsby Leisure Centre in 2014 after the machinery that ran the old ice rink failed – but said it could not secure the facility's long-term future.
Cllr Matthew Patrick, portfolio holder for finance, community assets, governance and tourism, said: “This is exactly what we want to see more of – members of the community stepping up and taking on facilities that are no longer sustainable for the council to run.
“We aim to complete the transfer by the end of August and I look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength.”
