A woman who has campaigned to beat the scammers she blames for the death of her elderly mother has welcomed tough new measures announced today by the Royal Mail which will see millions of postal frauds destroyed.

Marilyn Baldwin, from Chesterfield, set up the charity "Think Jessica" in her mother's name, and has been fighting for postal reform since 2007.

In March, Royal Mail announced that postmen and women would be able to open or refuse to deliver anything believed to be part of a con.

But now the company says it will actively block and impound scams which convince elderly and vulnerable people to send money to conmen. It says it will also intercept letters carrying cash for foreign fraudsters - so the money can be returned to victims.
