West Yorkshire Police has confirmed that the officers who were involved in the fatal shooting of a man from Huddersfield didn't have body-worn cameras.

Yassar Yaqub, 27, died during a "pre-planned" operation at junction 24 of the M62 on Monday night following information about illegal gun possession.

He was shot through the window of the Audi car he was travelling in. A firearm was later found in the car.

West Yorkshire Police said the incident wasn't recorded on camera – despite a force-wide roll-out of body-worn devices.

Uniformed officers in three of the five Districts of West Yorkshire are now equipped with body worn video cameras, as a force-wide roll out of the devices continues.

Firearms officers do not currently use them, however we are seeking a separate solution to meet the specific and specialised requirements of their role.
