Raid by jewel robbers caught on camera

A raid on a jeweller's shop in Grimsby was caught on camera by an eyewitness.

Humberside police hope the footage, taken on a mobile phone, will help them identify the men, who terrified staff at Hewitt & Son jewellers, before fleeing with a 'considerable quantity of high value merchandise'.

Humberside Police confirmed they are still searching for three men who escaped the high-end jewellery store in Victoria Street. They later found the abandoned Mazda 3 getaway car.

The men, all wearing balaclavas and white boiler type suits, entered the jewellers yesterday morning (March 15th) and became involved in an altercation with staff before leaving with their haul.

They reversed a dark blue Mazda down the street and three men got out, one with a bat, machete and sledgehammer. They smashed the window and then all I could hear were screams coming from the girls inside. My heart was racing all the time. The men were in there for three or four minutes - I was really anxious they were hurting the girls. I quickly got my phone out and filmed it all - it was just my reaction.

– Eyewitness

No one is reported to be injured following the incident and witnesses have reported seeing the men get into a silver/grey Mazda 3 car. A vehicle of that type and model has subsequently been found by police abandoned in the David Street area of Grimsby. We know that several people were in the vicinity of the jewellers at the time of this morning's robbery and may have seen something or even captured vital information on mobile devices. If anyone has Information or holds potential evidence to assist this aspect of our enquiry, I would be very interested in hearing from them.
