The Foreign Office has confirmed that the Vietnamese tour company involved in the deaths of two Sheffield sisters was licensed and legitimate.
South Yorkshire Police officers are currently working with the FCO and Vietnamese authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Beth Giselle Anderson, 24, and her sister Isobel Mackensie Squire, 19.
The sisters were found at the Datanla Waterfalls in the Da Lat area of Vietnam on Friday 26 February. They were seven weeks into a backpacking tour of South East Asia.
A full investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding their death.
“Specially trained officers are supporting Beth and Isobel’s family during this extremely difficult time.
“We are working closely with the FCO to determine the full details around their death and to keep the family updated on the latest information from Vietnam.
“We have been informed by the FCO that initial enquiries have confirmed that the sisters were taking part in a legitimate walking tour and that the company has an international licence, registered to operate in Vietnam.
“In addition, the tour guide was legally employed by the company and had issued the group with life vests and helmets.”
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
This Evening and Tonight: Showers or longer spells of rain are forecast through the evening and night.
