Floods latest: Boxing Day power cuts for thousands in Yorkshire

Clear-up from the Boxing Day floods continues

Flooding on Boxing Day devastated large parts of Yorkshire.

Around 3,000 homes and businesses in North and West Yorkshire are without power after electricity substations were flooded. Northern Powergrid says its engineers cannot safely reach the flooded sites in the Calder Valley, Bingley and Skipton areas to assess the damage.

“Our engineers are ready to respond but the level of the flooding means that our teams are unable to safely access the affected substations. We are continually monitoring the situation and as soon as we get the green light for access from the emergency services our engineers will start work repairing the damage caused by the floods to make power available for our customers."
