The Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin was in Wakefield this morning to officially open the new Westgate train station. The 8-million-pound building was also blessed by the Bishop of Wakefield, The Right Reverend Stephen Platten.
The new station has taken around year to construct and is now accessible from Mulberry way. Inside it has a new travel centre, ticket gates, and waiting rooms.
At around 11pm on Friday night police were called to Darley Avenue in Athersley to reports that a man had been stabbed.
