Man's body found by canal in Skipton

A man's body has been found by the Leeds-Liverpool canal in Skipton.

Officers say they were called at 6.45pm yesterday after a man was found with serious head injuries at the bottom of some steps which lead to Gas Street.

The 68-year-old man from Threshfield, was taken to Airedale Hospital where he died later in the evening.

At this stage his death remains unexplained and police have cordoned off the area. They're appealing for witnesses, particularly a man they believe was jogging in the area and stopped at the scene to help.
